2003 April 1 Ð A Co-op fuel truck tipped over onto its side yesterday afternoon on Longmore Avenue, sending the driver to hospital with minor injuries and a stream of diesel spilling onto the pavement. Emergency crews sealed off the area and successfully cleaned up the fuel. Ð A little snow didn't hurt the Bakers Narrows Lodge Burbot Derby, as 180 participants did their part over the weekend to help rid Athapap Lake of the snake-like fish. April 7 Ð A pair of sociable Flin Flon traditions continued over the weekend. Both the Vimy Tea at the Legion Hall as well as the First United Lutheran Church Spring, Tea, Craft and Bake Sale were held Saturday afternoon. April 11 Ð Staff who have initial contact with all patients at the Flin Flon General Hospital have been wearing medical masks to protect themselves from the potentially deadly disease known as SARS. "There are no suspect or probable cases of SARS in Manitoba, so this procedure is in place just as a precautionary measure," said Corliss Patterson, director of communications for NOR-MAN Regional Health Authority. April 15 Ð The Flin Flon School Division is bracing for the possibility of losing 10 per cent of its student population and over $1 million in annual funding. That's what could happen if the Creighton School Division opts to run a full high school program at Creighton Community School, which currently offers classes from kindergarten to Grade 9. A feasibility study concerning this issue is to be undertaken at Creighton School. April 21 Ð Overall sales at the Co-op were up by over $1 million in 2002.
