The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba held a local Appreciation Night at the Victoria Inn on Tuesday evening. Al Ross, Area Manger from Brandon, attended the event and thanked everyone for helping the Foundation to raise funds for its research. "Heart disease is the number one killer, and sometimes people forget that," said Ross. "Through the efforts of our volunteers, we are able to raise valuable funds for heart and stroke research." Ross extended his appreciation to the people of this area who generously supported this cause when canvassers knocked on their door during the campaign held in February. This year's local campaign raised $6,179. Barb Corden of Flin Flon is the Program Coordinator for the North of 53 District. She also thanked the canvassers for their time and efforts. See 'Health' P.# Con't from P.# "Without the volunteers who canvass, the Heart and Stroke Foundation would not be able to help improve the health of Manitobans," said Barb. She added that the foundation's research, health promotion and advocacy, "helps to prevent and reduce disability and death from heart disease and stroke." Barb also noted that the students of McIsaac School raised $6,927 in their Jump For Heart fundraising campaign. Area schools take turns hosting this event.
