The Flin Flon area will be in the running for the 2006 Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce annual general meeting. At their executive meeting yesterday at the Friendship Centre, the Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce agreed to apply to host the event. Chamber Director Phill Robinson said the meeting would be a good way to promote this area to the rest of Saskatchewan. Two weeks ago, the Chamber voted to apply to host the 2005 Manitoba Chamber of Commerce annual meeting. "If we can handle one, I think we can handle the other," commented Robinson. The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce represents about 80 chambers across the province. Its annual meeting will take place in Yorkton this year and in Lloydminster in 2005. In another matter at yesterday's meeting, attended by 13 people, the chamber agreed to support Senator Raymond Lavigne's forthcoming bill that would see senators pledge allegiance to Canada. Senators currently pledge allegiance to the Queen, but not to the nation. Sen. Lavigne informed the chamber via letter that he will present a bill this fall to have Canada included. As well, President Doug O'Brien noted that the mayors of Creighton and Denare Beach are the scheduled guest speakers for the chamber's next general meeting, slated for April 6 at the Friendship Centre. Bruce Fidler was acclaimed to the mayor's seat in Creighton last October. Carl Lentowicz first became mayor of Denare Beach in 1997.
