Dr. Krishan Sethi has accepted the latest in a growing list of honours.
The long-time Flin Flon physician was in Vancouver last month to receive his Fellowship in The College of Family Physicians of Canada.
“Practising as a physician in the Flin Flon community for these past 33 years has been a very rewarding experience, which I hope to continue,” Dr. Sethi said.
Fellowship in the College is an honour bestowed upon member physicians in good standing.
They must have maintained their certification for at least 10 straight years. They must also meet standards around professional development activities that demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning.
“The students, residents and IMGs (international medical graduates) I have mentored, and continue to mentor, as well as the community, (have) inspired me in my quest for (continual) learning,” said Dr. Sethi.
Of course this isn’t the first major accolade for Dr. Sethi.
In 2006 he accepted the Rural Service Award from the Society of Rural Physicians for his “long and meritorious medical service to the community.”
In 2005, Dr. Sethi was named Manitoba’s Doctor of the Year by the College of Family Physicians of Canada as well as the province’s Top Family Doctor by the Manitoba College of Family Physicians.
He was believed to be the first physician in northern Manitoba to receive either of those two titles.
Born in Kenya, Dr. Sethi grew up in Scotland, where he graduated from the renowned Glasgow University in 1976.
Following an internship, he completed postgraduate training in pediatrics, obstetrics, and anesthesia.
He came to Flin Flon in 1980 for what he expected would be a few years, but, like many adopted residents before him, fell in love with the area.
