Jonathon Naylor Editor Construction is expected to begin before the end of the month on a new ambulance station for Flin Flon paramedics. The facility will be built at the former Ross Lake Market Garden, where preliminary work has already begun. 'The approved budget is $850,000 and is expected to remain on track,' notes Glenn Hildebrand, a spokesperson for the Northern Regional Health Authority. The ambulance station is expected to open before the end of the year. The three-bay facility will require 27,000 square feet of space, complete with a 40- or 50-ft. apron on which the ambulances can turn around. The station will include parking for three ambulances along with office and storage space. It is to be occupied by ambulance attendants 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Funding will come from the provincial government, which has said the project 'is part of a strategic approach to upgrading EMS (emergency medical services) services around the province so that Manitobans have equitable and reliable services wherever they may live.' 'There have been many changes in EMS services and technology in recent years that need to be accommodated,' a Manitoba Health spokesperson told The Reminder previously.
