The Flin Flon, Municipal Airport has landed a new manager. Brian Salamondra, who was an operator at the airport for the previous 11 years, is enjoying his new role. "It's something different all the time," said the Flin Flon native. "It definitely means added responsibilities and challenges." The new job fits Salamondra like a glove, as he's had a certain fascination with runways and spinning propellors since he was a child. "I was always interested in aviation," commented the one-time private pilot. Despite that airborne interest, employment at the airport has been Salamondra's second career. After obtaining a certificate in mining technology at Keewatin Community College, he spent 21 years with HBMS before being hired on at the airport in the early 1990s. Salamondra has enjoyed his time there, particularly the staff he works with day in and day out. "They're very easy to work with and very accommodating," he said. "It's a nice small, happy family." Salamondra replaces the retired Jim Goodfellow as airport manager. Goodfellow had held the position since 1990. The City of Flin Flon will soon hire a new airport operator to fill the position left vacant by Salamondra's promotion.
