After 17 years, Flin Flon’s Green Project likely in its final year

The Flin Flon-Creighton Green Project has entered what will likely be its final year of spurring vegetative growth across the area.

The Flin Flon-Creighton Green Project has entered what will likely be its final year of spurring vegetative growth across the area.

After 17 years, project co-coordinator Dave Price says the initiative has greened up the most prominent, accessible areas.

The Green Project sees volunteers spread limestone on barren land. The rock neutralizes the soil, encouraging vegetation to take hold.

The project launched its 2016 season in early May. Areas receiving limestone this year include land near the Flinty’s Boardwalk observation platform and near the Phantom Lake Golf Course driving range, among others.

Price says the Green Project has been “a fantastic project” for area students. The Reminder will have more on the initiative.
