A Flin Flon man charged with murder in the stabbing death of a fellow resident plans to fight the accusation in court. 'He intends to contest this charge vigorously,' Greg Brodsky, the attorney for Mitchell Whitbread, told The Reminder. It will now be more than a year before Whitbread, 25, appears in court again. Earlier this month, a preliminary inquiry _ held to determine whether there is enough evidence to proceed to trial _ was scheduled to start on April 28, 2014. The inquiry is to be held at Flin Flon Provincial Court and last four days. Whitbread is charged with second-degree in the May 12, 2012 death of John (Kelli) Eyres, 31, of Flin Flon. The RCMP have released few details of the death other than to say the cause was a stabbing. Police have also said the two men were not known to each other. Based in Winnipeg, Brodsky is one of Manitoba's most prominent criminal defence lawyers. Meanwhile, in Flin Flon's other unresolved homicide case, the accused, James Desmarais, will make his next court appearance May 6 in The Pas. Desmarais, charged with second-degree murder in the Oct. 31, 2011 death of Raylene Dawn Grant, has also said he will plead not guilty.
