Jonathon Naylor Editor The fate of two Alberta men accused of trafficking cocaine in Flin Flon rests with a judge. The men, who were arrested nearly a year and a half ago before pleading not guilty, appeared at a one-day trial in Flin Flon Provincial Court last week. The case was put over to March 13, again in Flin Flon. At that time or on a future date, the judge will hand down a ruling and sentence. On Sept. 18, 2011, RCMP investigators executed a search warrant _ under the Controlled Drugs And Substances Act _ at a hotel room in Flin Flon. Police said they seized a quantity of cocaine with an estimated street value of $9,500. Officers promptly arrested and charged the men, then aged 28 and 50. Both of the accused face charges of possession of a controlled drug for the purpose of trafficking, in addition to several other charges. Flin Flon RCMP laid a total of 18 cocaine trafficking charges in 2011, more than triple the five charges laid in 2010. That could mean either there was more cocaine in the community or that police simply had more success in taking the potentially deadly drug off the street. The 2012 stats are not yet available.
