Whatever you do, don't forget. Sunday is Father's Day, a time to honour that guy who changed your diapers, taught you how to drive, and was always there when you needed a quick 'loan.' The special day for dads has roots dating back nearly a century. Father's Day first took place on June 19, 1910 in Spokane, Washington. It came on the heels of a proposal from a woman named Sonora Smart-Dodd, who wanted to express appreciation for her father. Perhaps no better man could have been chosen to inspire Father's Day, as William Smart lovingly raised six young children by himself after his wife died while giving birth. In 1924, U.S. President Calvin Coolidge expressed his support of a national day to honour fathers, but it wasn't until 1966 that President Lyndon Johnson officially named the third Sunday of each June as Father's Day. Sunday will be the perfect time to pay back dad for all of those times you bummed money off of him or caused him to sprout a few premature gray hairs. Happy Father's Day to all dads.
