A chance to tickle the ivories of the grand pipe organ at a famous western Canadian church highlighted a recent trip by a group of young pianists. Six of Susan Fulford's piano students recently took part in a music enrichment trip to Saskatoon, where they visited the University of Saskatchewan's School of Music and the St. John's Anglican Cathedral. "Piano can be kind of a lonely instrument," commented Fulford. "You play alone and you practice alone. This was something we could do as a group that was musically enriching, and it was a new experience." During the weekend trip, the youths had the opportunity to play on a nine-foot grand piano at the U of S with proud family members on hand. They also took part in workshops involving a harpsichord and later the pipe organ at the church. Ian Knutson, one of the students, didn't have any trouble pinpointing his favourite part of the trip. "The pipe organ was amazing," he said. "The sound was incredible." Joining Ian on the trip were Rachel Wilson, Gordon Bradt, Alyssa Davidson, Teslyn Anderson, and Greg Kritzer. Fulford enthusiastically labeled the trip the "Saskatoon Music Adventure."
