Elias Kulukundis and Mark Kolt are busy working on "Three Brides for Kasos". Elias (who wrote the libretto), has come all the way from Manhattan, New York to work with Mark (who has written the music). Elias has met the cast and production manager, Brad McDougall, and is extremely pleased with what he has seen. "The cast is very strong and talented," stated Elias. "Along with the great team of Mark and Crystal Kolt, I am very excited at watching this play come alive!" Elias is also impressed with the costume directors of Lori Lawrence and Linda Allen. "They have done a lot of research and are great at the detail work of each costume," he said. The production will also feature a "lyra" which is an instrument native to the Greek island of Kasos. The story is actually a true story according to Elias, one of many he has featured in his book "The Feasts of Memory". The story is basically about two fathers of two powerful families who have both chosen the same doctor to marry their daughters, which is not uncommon in that era. The doctor's mother is a widow and this young man is in a very tough spot. "Caught in his own web," stated Elias. When asked where the third wife comes from, Elias smiled and said, "Aha! That is a secret only those who attend the play will find out!" "The story is very emotional," stated Crystal. "It is also a romance." From the short pieces of music I could hear while interviewing Elias, it sounds exceptional but then, anyone who knows Mark Kolt, marvels at the way he can bring any instrument to life! The show will be seen in Flin Flon in June and then will go to Winnipeg in July, and then who knows! We will be looking forward to the production. Once again a first for Flin Flon!
