Flin Flonners will continue to dial 911 for emergencies, but it’s going to cost them a bit more money.
The City of Flin Flon has agreed to pay $3.64 per capita for the phone service in 2015.
That amounts to $19,521, up by nearly $3,500 from the current year.
The city had been paying $2.99 per capita since 2011. Prior to that, the fee was $2.90.
The fee applies only to Manitoba residents of Flin Flon.
The Manitoba portion of Flin Flon received 911 in 2008. By that time, the familiar three digits had already been established in Flin Flon, Saskatchewan, Creighton and Denare Beach.
Indeed 911 was so prevalent that people from other communities were often surprised when they learned Flin Flon had been going without.
The city had to spend months working on getting 911, jumping through the various hoops required, including giving MTS geographical information on the layout of the community.
