Jonathon Naylor Editor What should a souvenir coin in honour of Flin Flon's 80th anniversary look like? That's the question the Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce is asking of area artists. The chamber is calling on artists to submit design proposals for a geocache coin to be unveiled this summer. 'This is not only a tool to help (promote) the area and our local art community, but it's a fundraiser for the local Chamber of Commerce,' Kory Eastman, chamber president, said at the organization's general meeting last week. The theme of the coin will be '80 Years of Community' in honour of the eight decades that have past since Flin Flon was incorporated in 1933. The goal, Eastman said, is to mint possibly more than 750 coins, though the exact number has yet to be determined. The chamber hopes to have the coins ready to sell for the Trout Festival this summer. Eastman urged artists to watch the local media for more details. Complete rules and guidelines are available at the Chamber of Commerce office at 35 Main Street (above Pharmasave). The design contest officially opened last Friday and will run until March 29. The winning artist will be acknowledged in the local media and on the chamber website, and receive five of the coins. Eastman commended The Reminder and CFAR, both of which have agreed to promote the coin contest at a nominal cost. The chamber also minted a geocache coin last year. It can be kept as a souvenir or placed in the 'caches' sought by those modern-day treasure hunters known as geocachers.
