A Guns N’ Roses tribute band wants to welcome you to the jungle for this year’s Second Annual Fur Ball Social in support of the Flin Flon, Creighton and Area SPCA.

The Nightrain will take the stage Saturday at the RH Channing Auditorium with funds going toward the SPCA shelter and its general maintenance, veterinarian bills, food and supplies as well as a subsidized spay and neuter program.

Shelter manager Carmen Ward says last year’s first Fur Ball Social with a Bon Jovi tribute band was such a success that people are still talking about it. She hopes to have the same response this year.

“The buzz around town is that people are looking forward to it,” said Ward, of this weekend’s performance.

Based in Saskatoon, The Nightrain comes with high praise from Ward, who found the band on YouTube after searching for Canadian tribute bands.

“They are pretty incredible,” said Ward, impressed with the lead singer’s vocals.

“He’s kind of the real deal,” she said, eager to see the show on Saturday.

Ward printed a total of 400 tickets for this year’s performance after a near-sellout last year at more than 350 tickets.

50/50 draw

Along with the tribute band, the Fur Ball Social will feature a 50/50 draw and a raffle on two plane tickets from Flin Flon to Winnipeg.

Previous to the Fur Ball Social, the SPCA’s largest fundraiser was its quad raffle. Ward says the group is trying something new this year with a 2015 Polaris Ace for their raffle, which will be at the social on Saturday.

“No one has raffled [an Ace] off yet, so we hope it’s a big hit,” said Ward.

There will also be a slideshow before The Nightrain takes the stage to showcase shelter rescues and their new families.

“We have photos sent in from the adoptive families of the cats and dogs from our shelter. It’s pretty touching to watch,” said Ward. “It just reminds us briefly why we are all there – for the animals in need in our community.”

Tickets are currently on sale for the Fur Ball Social and can be purchased at the Gateway, Flin Flon Insurance and the SPCA shelter. Tickets purchased in advance are $30 and tickets at the door will be $40.

Doors will open on Saturday at 8 pm with the show starting at 10 pm.
