Jonathon Naylor Editor The days when workers would spend their entire career with a single company are largely gone, but Hudbay continues to buck the trend. Last Friday, Jan. 11, the so-called quarter-century club _ employees with at least 25 years of service _ grew by 45 members as the company hosted a watch party. 'It's recognizing their milestone with the corporation and in a small way, we're thanking them for their commitment,' said Brad Lantz, vice-president of Hudbay's Manitoba Business Unit. Since HBMS _ the now-defunct chief asset of Hudbay _ was established more than 80 years ago, the company has handed out 25-year watches to 2,970 employees. Worker loyalty It's an illustration of strong worker loyalty that continues to this day, as Hudbay's current turnover rate is just one per cent _ well below the industry average of about six per cent. Held at the R.H. Channing Auditorium, Friday's watch party also honoured workers who have gone 25, 30, 35 or 40 years without a lost-time accident. The evening further celebrated the 57 employees who have retired from the company's Flin Flon and Snow Lake operations over the past year.
