The days when workers would spend their entire career with a single company are largely gone, but Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting continues to buck the trend. On Friday, the company's so-called quarter-century club Ð employees with at least 25 years of service Ð grew to 2,877 members since HBMS launched over eight decades ago. "Our long-service employees have made a tremendous contribution to our company," said Tom Goodman, HBMS senior vice president, operations, in a previous interview. "They have basically brought us to where we are today." Goodman said few employers can boast of a workforce as stable as that of HBMS. "It's very special and it's quite unique to our company," he said. "You can travel a long way before you'd find another company that has this level of loyalty among its employment base, and I think that's really fundamental to our success." Twenty-two 25-year workers were honoured with watches during a formal banquet at the R.H. Channing Auditorium. Twenty-three workers accepted 25-year safety awards for going a quarter-century without a lost-time accident. Another 46 employees received 30-year safety awards. Five workers took home 35-year safety awards, and three accepted 40-year safety awards.
