Snow Lake was the scene of a dramatic blaze July 5, as a fire at the Lalor mine camp destroyed the on-site kitchen and made part of the camp residence unusable. Locals, acting in the aftermath of the blaze, set up a temporary kitchen at the nearby Lawrie Marsh Community Hall to feed workers, working in shifts to provide hot food to miners impacted by the fire. Locals also dug deep to accommodate workers without places to stay, allowing some to crash on coaches or at cabins while the fire was extinguished. Every room available in Snow Lake was booked following the blaze.

No injuries were reported in the fire, which Hudbay officials said was an isolated incident. Temporary residences were built at the site and the dormitories affected were fixed later in the summer.
