The Queen’s representatives in Canada and Manitoba headed north for Flin Flon Culture Days this fall. Both Governor General Julie Payette and Lieutenant Governor Janice Filmon arrived in town with great fanfare as part of a tour through northern Manitoba, visiting students, participating in special events and attending a ball in their honour at the Community Hall. It was the first official visit to Flin Flon for both in their current posts.

Payette canoed with kids from local elementary schools at Phantom Lake and held a walk of Flinty’s Boardwalk with schoolkids and local dignitaries. Filmon paid visits to Cranberry Portage, The Pas and headed to several cultural locations in the Flin Flon area.

Each were presented with gifts during their time in town.

Filmon and Payette’s appearances coincided with a Culture Days celebration considered successful by organizers and participants alike.
