Flin Flon and Creighton’s annual winter festival is just around the corner.

Bust the Winter Blues will take place from Mar. 1 to 3 at several locations in both communities, including events ranging from children’s games to card tournaments for seniors.

Everything will get underway with the soup and bunwich event at the Heritage Manor in Creighton Friday afternoon, continuing on with the free fun swim and fun skate at the Flin Flon Aqua Centre and Creighton Sportex respectively.

“I don’t think too much has changed. Everything is basically the same,” said Tina Law, tourism administrative assistant for the Town of Creighton.

The brunt of the festival will take place on Saturday, with the traditional pancake breakfast, craft show and poker derby all starting in the morning. Family festivities at the Rotary Wheel will start at 1 p.m., including a weenie roast, hot chocolate, horse-drawn sleigh rides and an number of what organizers call ‘cultural games’ – nail driving, animal calling, toboggan races, log throwing and smooshing.

“There will be some different games going on there, but there will still be the sleigh rides and all that,” said Law.

A fireworks display will be held at the Creighton soccer and football field at around 7 p.m. Saturday, followed soon afterward by the Winterland Family Dance at the Creighton Community Hall.

The Bust the Winter Blues Snow Drags will happen Sunday on Ross Lake, starting at noon, along with spades at the Creighton Seniors Centre and a cribbage tournament at the Flin Flon Aboriginal Friendship Centre.
