The annual Welcome to Newcomers evening was held on Wednesday in the Miniota Community Hall with approximately 160 in attendance. A delicious potluck supper was enjoyed. Five families out of a total of 11 new families were able to join us for introductions and meeting community members. The Birtle Miniota CDC presented the newcomers with gift bags. Following the introductions the Miniota School Choir under the direction of Mrs. Tricia Lelond entertained us with two songs.

The Bill Clark Memorial Volunteer Awards were presented as follows:

from Miniota Community Centre to Danny and Karen Argue;

from Beulah Community to Jim and the late Anne Milne;

and from Isabella Community to Wayne and Marilyn Schick;

and to Murray Sutherland

Presentations were made by Trevor Clark on behalf of the Clark family. Chief Nick Young presented the Miniota Fire Department Service awards for 15 years to Jody Evans, and 20 years to Patrick Cousins and Brad Thompson.

Deepest sympathy is extended to Nola Webb and her family on the death of Bert, beloved husband, dad and grandpa. Bert was pasture manager for many years at the Wallace Community pasture south of Miniota and many patrons remember Bert for his friendliness and his great leather works.

Word has been received of the death of Emily Poppel on April 19, wife of Gary Poppel and mother of Jacquie (Nelson) Ellis, Shannon (Dale) Conway and Bryan Poppel, and grandmother of eight. Our deepest sympathy is extended to Gary and his family and also to Wayne and Mark Poppel and their families. A celebration of life will be held in the Miniota Hall on May 4.

Approximately 140 thoroughly enjoyed a steak supper with all the trimmings at the Miniota Community Hall on April 19, sponsored by the Miniota Community Centre Board to kick off a major fundraising initiative for enhancement to the Miniota skating rink as well as the addition of a new ball diamond. A most successful pie auction raised considerable funds to begin this initiative. Well done to the MCC!

Miniota Community Centre

On Friday, April 19, the Miniota Community Centre board held a Steak Night Fundraiser. Wow, did our community come out in full support! Around 140 people enjoyed steak with all the sides available. Following supper, Brad Cole spoke on behalf of the Facility Enhancement group of the three phased plan: enhance the skating rink, expand the facilities, and add an additional ball diamond to our recreation grounds to continue to serve our growing community.

The auctioneer, Richard Bramley, kept the crowd entertained with an exciting pie auction. He sold 36 very delicious pies all donated by women from the community. We are blown away by everyone who supported this event. The evening raised over $50,000 for our project. The Facility Enhancement Group is off to a great start!

Everyone supported this event so generously!
