Sixteen candidates for Flin Flon’s city council and school board had filed nomination papers as of The Reminder’s press deadline yesterday.

Candidates still had a few hours left to get on the ballot for the Oct. 22 election.

Confirmed candidates for mayor were incumbent George Fontaine, former city councillor Cal Huntley and three-time mayoral candidate Robin James.

Candidates for city council were incumbents Tim Babcock, Bill Hanson, Karen MacKinnon, Colleen McKee and
Ken Pawlachuk, and newcomers Leslie Beck and Tom Davie.

School board candidates were incumbents Tim Davis, Trish Sattelberger and Murray Skeavington, and newcomers Andy Burbidge, Leslie Fernandes and Amy Sapergia Green.

That left six school board candidates running for seven spots. Two more candidates were needed for an election.

In the event that only six or seven candidates run for school board, all are acclaimed. If only six are acclaimed, the new trustees have the right to either appoint a seventh trustee or call a by-election to fill the vacant slot.

The number of candidates for mayor and city council guaranteed an election for those positions, though candidates have until today to drop out.

The current city council consists of Mayor Fontaine and councillors Babcock, Hanson, MacKinnon, McKee, Pawlachuk and Skip Martin.

The present school board is made up of trustees Davis, Sattelberger, Skeavington, Glenn Smith, Angela Simpson, Karen Yeo and Vicki Davie.
