$100K for Green Street

Flin Flon and Snow Lake will share in nearly $900,000 worth of provincial funding for road repairs unveiled by Premier Greg Selinger.

Flin Flon and Snow Lake will share in nearly $900,000 worth of provincial funding for road repairs unveiled by Premier Greg Selinger.

Selinger announced the funding last week in The Pas, also pledging support for municipal road projects in The Pas, Thompson, the RM of Kelsey, Leaf Rapids and Churchill.

“Northern roads are affected by extreme weather conditions and require more attention to maintain to link communities, and to ensure safe and smooth travel for local families, commercial vehicles and tourists,” said Selinger.

Doug Dobrowolski, president of the Association of Manitoba Municipalities lobby group, called the funding important.

“…it will not only help tackle the municipal infrastructure deficit, it will have a direct impact on the lives of northern citizens,” he said.

Flin Flon’s share of the funding is $100,000 for road rehabilitation and sidewalk repairs along a section of Green Street dug up in 2012 and 2013 as part of a pipe-replacement project.

Snow Lake receives support for road renewals on Cedar, Poplar, Wekusko and Johnson streets. A provincial news release made no mention of the dollar value of that work.
