The Flin Flon-based singer/songwriter is among the final 10 artists remaining in this year’s CBC Searchlight competition.

Trubiak’s song ‘Raven’ was one of five tracks to earn a spot in the top 10 based solely on fan voting. Fellow Flin Flon musicians Erick Bergman and Brent Lethbridge are featured on the track, which was co-written by Trubiak and Aileen Martella.

The song is from Trubiak’s third album, McBain, released in late 2017.

More than 2,000 Canadian artists entered the CBC Searchlight contest. That number was whittled down to 100, then to the final 10 on Mar. 8. Trubiak is the only Manitoba artist to make the final 10.

Trubiak’s bio on the CBC Searchlight website lists him as “A hardworking country-folk star in the making, who rediscovered himself and his music when he returned to his remote hometown in northern Manitoba.”

The final winner will be voted on by a panel of Canadian recording industry heavyweights and announced online and on CBC Radio on Mar. 19,

The Reminder will have further coverage in our Mar. 14 edition.
