She’s “Wide Awake” and wants everyone to know it.
Nine-year-old Claudia Pachal loves to sing and loves to make videos.
She combined the two when she and her father, Ev, posted a cover of Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” to YouTube last week.
The video was a first for the pair, formerly of Flin Flon, though singing together has become one of their favourite pastimes.
Claudia has been singing as long as she can remember and has recently had her dad by her side with his guitar.
“I really love singing,” said Claudia, who now lives in Saskatoon with her dad. “I like it so much sometimes I don’t even realize I’m doing it.”
Ev saw the passion in his daughter’s eyes when she sang and decided to learn the songs on his guitar.
“I decided to look up songs she enjoys and learn the chords,” he said, adding that most songs had basic chords and were easy to pick up.
“It’s something for us to do together,” he said.
“It’s really fun,” chimed in Claudia.
The Grade 4 student has big dreams for the future with hopes of becoming a singer
herself.
Neither Claudia nor Ev had expectations
after uploading the
video, called “Wide Awake Acoustic Girl and Daddy” to YouTube, but the views came quickly.
In the first 24 hours there were well over 100 views as well as family and friends sharing the video on Facebook. By late last week, views had surpassed 250.
“I didn’t expect anything,” said Claudia, who barely had a chance to even tell her friends at school about the video. “I just wanted it to be on YouTube.”
The pair had made one video previous to “Wide Awake,” but Claudia wasn’t sold on the final performance so it was never uploaded.
But following an interview with The Reminder mid last week, the pair sat down and uploaded their second cover video: “Eye of the Needle” by Sia.
