So it seems like winter has arrived in northern Manitoba, kind of early though!

But don’t worry because this Saturday and Sunday Home Routes performer Marco Castillo from Rio de Janeiro (via Winnipeg) will be bringing the warm sounds of Brazil to Flin Flon.

Marco’s first show will be on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Johnny’s Social Club. Tickets for the Johnny’s show are available at Northern Rainbow’s End.

On Sunday, Oct. 23, Marco will be playing a house concert at Ann Ross and Doug McGregor’s home, 183 Murton Blvd. If an intimate evening of Brazilian jazz and samba music is your “cup of cachaca,” email Ann at [email protected] and she’ll hold you a seat.

Marco, who made Canada his home in 2006, mixes traditional and contemporary Latin rhythms into a warm and sensuous jazz-samba-funk stew which is sure to warm up his Canadian audiences as they prepare for the arrival of winter, brrrrrr!

Also, this weekend, Crystal Kolt, cultural coordinator of the Flin Flon Arts Council, will be leading a delegation of Arts Council board members and a representative from the NorVA Centre to this year’s Manitoba Arts Network Showcase Conference in Morden, MB, where they will have the opportunity to see and hear the 15 acts hoping to secure a tour for the 2017-18 arts season.

Many people will remember the level of excellence at last year’s Showcase here in Flin Flon (that’s where we discovered Everything Fitz, who performed in Flin Flon this past weekend). Our representatives will be expecting nothing less at this year’s event in Morden.

How’s your Halloween shaping up? The Wood ’n’ Wire series at Johnny’s Social Club will be offering a super opportunity to dress up, get weird and hear some fabulous music in Noelle Drimmie’s interactive production of the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show featuring local performers CC Trubiak as Dr. Frank N Furter, Craig Bancroft and Kat Windjack as Brad and Janet, Johnny Bettger as Eddie and Dr. Scott, and Samantha Moore as Rocky Horror, the “living muscular man.”

The Horror Show will be at Johnny’s Social Club Friday, Oct. 28 at 8:30 pm and Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7 pm. Tickets are at
The Orange Toad and costumes are recommended!

In other news, the next Toronto International Film Festival film being shown at the Hapnot Theatre will be Dark Horse. Showtime is tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7:30 pm. Admission will be charged.
