Diverse art comes to life in Denare Beach

The Denareplex has been transformed into a hotbed of creativity this week as the NorVA Centre launched its annual artists’ retreat.

The Denareplex has been transformed into a hotbed of creativity this week as the NorVA Centre launched its annual artists’ retreat.

Held in Denare Beach for the first time this year, the retreat has attracted both local and visiting artists, some of whom collaborate on projects, while others choose to work independently on works of art.

“The different media this year is a real treat,” said NorVA co-president and resident artist Karen Clark.

Mediums being used by the artists include batik, paint in acrylic, oil, ink and alcohol, printing presses, raku pottery and photography.

Clark said that marionette-making, painting from kayaks, and cooking by the artists, for the artists, have all been highlights of the week so far.

This Saturday, the public can get a taste of the action as the artists hold a free public exhibition of their work, with some items available for sale.

The NorVA Retreat Exhibit will be held from 2 to 5 pm this Saturday, July 23 at the Denareplex.
