With the first weekend of Flin Flon Culture Days now in the books, the focus will turn to the event’s second week and a handful of events throughout the region.

After taking a break earlier this week, events will continue Sept. 29 with a clay pottery workshop at the Uptown Emporium on Main Street. That event will take place from 7-9 p.m. and registration is required in advance. Those interested can call (204) 687-4913 for more information or to register - spots are limited.

Another class, a beaded dreamcatcher-making workshop, will take place Sept. 30 at the Creighton Recreation Office from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Spots are also limited for the workshop and can be booked by calling (306) 688-3528.

Events get going again in earnest Oct. 1-2, with a Main Street tour starting at Pioneer Square at 2 p.m., a Magic: The Gathering tournament at the Scout Hall at 1 p.m. and the Taste of the North food event at the Rotary Wheel starting at 11 a.m. The Taste of the North event requires preregistration and spots are limited - booking can be done by emailing the Flin Flon Arts Council at [email protected].

The main event of the weekend will be the performance by the Ivan Flett Memorial Dancers. The group consists of three siblings from Winnipeg - each part of the Harris family - who specialize in Red River jigging. Named after their grandfather and with a family history of exceptional dancers, the trio has gone viral online in recent years and even made a run on CityTV’s Canada’s Got Talent.

The show is free to attend, but the show itself requires tickets, which can be picked up at either the Uptown Emporium or on the Arts Council website at flinflonartscouncil.ca.
