No public gatherings? No problem. The Flin Flon Community Choir’s annual Christmas concert is going online this year and will be broadcast Christmas Eve.

The show, entitled “Christmas Time is Here”, will be hosted on the Flin Flon Arts Council’s social media channels and streamed live on Facebook and YouTube. Hosts Raphael Saray and Susan Gunn-Saray will introduce videos of local performers and well-wishes from dignitaries both local and provincial, starting at 2 p.m.

“It's going to be beautiful,” said choir director Crystal Kolt.

“We had a lot of help from a lot of different people.”

Musicians including Jacob Harvie, Mark Kolt, Kim Jones, Lane Laderoute and others will each chip in some Christmas tunes, along with a Christmas carol sing-along. The performance will also include some notable readings - including one from Manitoba Lieutenant Governor Janice Filmon.

Initially, the plan for this year’s choir Christmas show was to hold it at the R.H. Channing Auditorium to an empty room, streaming the show online from there. When new COVID-19 restrictions and gathering limits disallowed that from happening, organizers took the show fully remote.

“We had to do it just one person at a time over the week, it was carefully and thoughtfully done. I think it's going to be a beautiful little hug for all of us and for so many of us that can't get together, so many family members that can't get together, I just couldn't let the season leave without trying to do something,” Kolt said.

“There’s so many people with so much talent. Of course, these are unusual circumstances and this is who we were able to get to and we’re grateful to be able to offer this to the community.”
