How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Apparently, by joining the Flin Flon Community Choir.
Next year’s schedule of Flin Flon Arts Council events has been announced, including another southern sojourn for Manitoba’s biggest little choir.
In April 2020, the choir will perform at Carnegie Hall for the third time. The group will perform at the famous New York City venue for the first time since 2016.
The choir will perform Carmina Burana in Flin Flon two weeks after the Carnegie Hall performance, hitting the RH Channing Auditorium stage May 7.
The season will get underway in September with both Culture Days, which will take place from Sept. 27-29 all around Flin Flon and the surrounding area, and a show by Scottish bagpiper Ian Kinnear on Sept. 26. Kinnear not only performs on the pipes, but also builds his own sets. The musician had previously played with Flin Flon arts impresario Mark Kolt in Scotland.
October brings some country and swing music onto the Flin Flon scene with Woody Holler and his Orchestra performing at the Flin Flon Community Hall Oct. 19. Originally trained in opera, Holler switched to a form of folky western swing he has termed “jazz from the saddle.”
The Flin Flon Community Choir’s annual Christmas show will be held on Nov. 30, with a distinctly Rat Pack theme for the performance. “A Dean Martin Christmas” will borrow liberally from the heyday of multi-talented performers like Martin and Frank Sinatra.
The slate continues in 2020 with the Royal Manitoba Theatre Company (RMTC) heading north for a show Jan. 11 and a Celtic cabaret scheduled to take place in February.
Two Ham Sandwich shows are on the schedule this year, one taking place from Dec. 6 - 7 and another March 13 - 14.
The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra will also make the trip north on April 25.
