Runners, walkers and even little crawlers can hit the trails tomorrow morning at a family-friendly race offered for the first time this year.
J’aime Courir, which means “I love to run,” is a 1k, 5k, and 10k walk/run event hosted by Canadian Parents for French Flin Flon. The 5k and 10 k runs will kick off at 8 am on Saturday, June 5, and the 1k run will begin at 10 am.
Co-organizers and avid runners Erica Christianson and Leah Stanley-Jones said they hope to make J’aime Courir an annual event.
“We are planning to do it every year, so people can use it as a training run, and plan for it,” said Christianson.
She added that many local runners travel at least four hours away to participate in larger races, when Flin Flon has beautiful running trails at its doorstep.
Saturday’s race will take full advantage of that asset, with a route that includes nature trails near the starting point at École McIsaac School.
While promoting a healthy lifestyle is one of the goals of the event, bringing the French language out of the classroom, and into the real world, is another focus, said Stanley-Jones.
To that end, participants can expect to see race signs written in both official languages, and cheering signs with encouraging messages written by McIsaac students en français.
Participants can register for J’aime Courir today, Friday, from 4 to 6 pm in room 113 at École McIsaac School, or on Saturday morning at the school from 7 to 7:30 am.
