Bargain-hunters, start your engines: the Flin Flon Inner Wheel Club will host its annual Boot Sale this Saturday, June 4.
In this fundraising event, participants sell new or second-hand items out of the trunks, or “boots,” of their cars, said Agnes Mills, an Inner Wheel member.
Mills said visitors to the sale will also find fresh baking, repurposed furniture and antiques. Funds collected from booking fees, and from the sale of hot dogs, hamburgers and homemade fries, will be added to the Inner Wheel’s charity account.
Mills says the organization donates funds to organizations and people as needs arise.
“We look at where we feel it’s needed the most,” she said.
In the past, the group has donated to Fort McMurray fire relief efforts, Transplant Manitoba and Port in the Storm, which offers low-cost accommodations to rural Manitoba families in Winnipeg for medical reasons.
The group also sponsors a Hapnot Collegiate scholarship and supports the Lord’s Bounty Food Bank’s milk program.
Mills said the Flin Flon branch has been running the Boot Sale for about 16 years, ever since former member Marg Smith visited an Inner Wheel group in England that ran a similar event.
“It’s a fun thing for us,” added Mills.
With 24 spots booked as of late last week, the event looks to be a promising one for both recipients of Inner Wheel funds, and those looking to score a good deal.
The Boot Sale will be held from 10 to 1 pm on Saturday, June 4 at the Victoria Inn upper level parking lot. To book a spot, call Mills at 204-687-8204.
