Two young history buffs are hoping to win an educational trip to our nation’s capital this summer – and they need the community’s help to get there.

At the Red River Heritage Fair held in Winnipeg this spring, Isabel Plamondon, 9, and Andy Richard, 15, both received the Young Citizen Award, which earned them a spot among 200 students from across Canada who are competing for a trip to the Canada’s History Youth Forum held in Ottawa.

To compete, each participant has made a short video about his or her heritage fair topic to share with the public. These videos are posted online and reviewed by a panel of judges; the top 26 students win a spot at the Canada’s History Youth Forum, where they will connect with like-minded youth and learn more about the country’s history.

Until July 6, the public can vote on the Young Citizens contest. Public votes will count for 50 per cent of each student’s score.

To vote for these two young historians, and view their videos, visit www.canadashistory.ca/Kids/YoungCitizens and select “Find a Young Citizen”.
