Hyndman, Margaret Ivy, of Rivers, beloved wife of Nyall, mother of David (Glenda), Dennis (Pat) and Ken (Sharon), died peacefully on September 11, 2007 at the Rivers Health Centre following a courageous battle with cancer. Margaret was born October 8, 1924 to Jack and Jane Adams of Rapid City, MB. She was raised in and took her early schooling in the Rapid City area. As a young woman she worked in the Rapid City Creamery for a time, candling eggs, and during the war, went to Hamilton with a cousin and worked for the Otis Elevator Company. Margaret married Nyall Hyndman on July 6, 1946 in Rapid City, MB and the couple moved shortly thereafter to Winnipeg. Nyall left to work in the mine in Flin Flon in the fall of 1947, and Margaret and their infant son joined him in the spring of 1948. Sons Dennis and Ken were born in Flin Flon in 1951 and 1953, respectively. A son, Alan Joseph Nyall, died in infancy in June, 1964. They made Flin Flon their home for the next 39 years where she was active in curling and bowling, and with the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, before moving to The Pas in January 1985 and then to Brandon the next year, ultimately moving to Rivers in 1987 where she resided until her passing. She was an avid bowler and curler, and took up the game of golf at the age of 65. She enjoyed the sport immensely. She won the Riverdale Ladies Champion several times, and she won gold and silver medals in the Manitoba Seniors Golf Playdowns. She especially enjoyed the Manitoba "5-in-9" program which took her and Nyall to many golf courses around the province, where she made many new friends. She especially enjoyed sending her husband and sons off on their annual golf match, and was always there at the end to take the official photo of the exchange of "the dime" from losers to winners. Margaret faced several serious health challenges, including two hip operations and a hip reconstruction, and cancer of the larynx, which required her to learn esophageal speech. All the while, her determination to enjoy life despite the drawbacks served as an inspiration to all who knew her. The service to celebrate her life was held Saturday, September 15 at the St. James Anglican Church in Rivers, with Ven. Paul Curtis officiating. Her son David delivered a touching eulogy as a tribute to his mother. Her grand-daughter Miranda Hyndman read a special prayer chosen beforehand by her grandmother, and grandson Corey Hyndman read the 23rd Psalm. Ernest Shelvey, a cousin of Marg's, delivered the homily, in which he explained how "The Lord is My Shepherd". Norma Christie - who had sung at the wedding of Margaret and Nyall - sang "In the Garden". Urnbearer was her grandson Mitchell Hyndman. A lunch was held at the Rivers Legion Hall, with the Legion Ladies Auxiliary providing. Interment was at Rapid City Cemetery. She was predeceased by: an infant son, Alan Joseph Nyall; her parents, Jack and Jane Adams; an infant sister, Hilda; her brother, Bob; her brothers and sisters-in-law: Edie Adams; Doug Brown; John Terry; Bob; Sophia; Jean and Charlie Christie.
