Mary (Boyes) Brown, formerly of Creighton, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully at the Northern Lights Manor on April 15, 2009, with her family by her side. Mary was born August 21, 1916, at Plunkett, Saskatchewan, to Herbert and Mary Cappleman. She moved to Alameda, Saskatchewan, at an early age, where she received her education and then took a secretarial course in Regina, Saskatchewan. In 1937 she went north to Island Falls, Saskatchewan, to get employment and then to Flin Flon, Manitoba. In 1938 she married her first husband, Eddie Boyes, and had two daughters, Jean Wright and Marg Rainville. Eddie passed away in 1968 and she married George Brown in 1971. When the girls became teenagers, they started to ask for jackets and drapes (not curtains but dress pants), etc., so Mary told them "You cook and I'll work." Mary worked in the Flin Flon Post Office for 16 years and then retired. Mary was a member of the North Star Rebekah Lodge for over 60 years. She joined March 7, 1941. She was very proud of this. In 1978 George and Mary moved to Birch River and turned into Snowbirds. They spent summers at Birch River and winters in Texas for 14 years. After George passed away, Mary remained in Birch River for two more years and then moved to Creighton, Saskatchewan, to be closer to her family. Mary lived next door to her long time friend Hilde Kind. They enjoyed their talks, sitting on the deck in the sun and checking on each other every day. Mary also enjoyed the family and friends visiting. She was very proud of her family. The visit could be five minutes or all afternoon, it didn't matter the length of time. Speaking of time, Mary was very punctual. When you said 9 o'clock you should be there. The Creighton Homecare gals can relate to this one. Mary was never without her watch. Another thing Mary enjoyed was knitting and crocheting. Over the years many mitts, sweaters and afghans were made and given to the family. Her knitting was immaculate and won her prizes when entered in shows. Mary always enjoyed books and in the last few years she enjoyed her Danielle Steele novels and movies. Some of her favourite TV shows were Lawrence Welk, Wheel of Fortune and sports programs such as skating and curling. Other activities Mary enjoyed were cards and bingo. She had her little pink sock for coins while playing cards at the North Sask. Seniors and a drawer full of potato chips from her wins at the Manor which were to be taken home to the grandchildren. Mary had a full life until this last year and she lived it to the fullest. We will all miss her very much. She is survived by her sister Betty Cappleman of Calgary, her daughters, Jean (Randy) Wright and Marg Rainville, and step-son Allan (Lynn) Brown. Also 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husbands, Eddie Boyes and George Brown, brother Reg Cappleman, sister Nancy Cappleman, son-in-law Bob Rainville, and three grandchildren. Services were held Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Northern Lights Manor with Reverend Clare Edwards officiating. Lunch was served following the service. Interment took place in Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Northern Lights Manor, c/o Flin Flon General Hospital, Box 340, Flin Flon, MB R8A 1N2.
