Lawrence Wilfred Kennedy It is with profound sadness the family of Lawrence ÒLarryÓ Wilfred Kennedy announces his unexpected passing while travelling to Arizona on October 18, 2007. DadÕs dream was to retire on his 65th birthday and spend the winter months down south and to live in Flin Flon the rest of the year. Larry was born April 18, 1942, and raised in Flin Flon and was employed by HBM&S in the powerhouse for 22 years. When not at work or FreedmanÕs you could find him in the back yard playing catch with his kids for hours on end, coaching baseball or driving out to Phantom Lake for a swim with all the neighbourhood kids piled into the Rambler. A gifted athlete himself, he took pride in teaching and passing on his love of baseball and basketball. Dad was our biggest fan attending all our sporting events well into our adult lives where heÕd sit quietly cheering us on whether it was the fastball tourney or the King Miner competition. He was proud of all his childrenÕs accomplishments and was looking forward to sitting in the stands watching his grandkids. At age 40 Larry moved to Winnipeg. Apprehensive at first, he soon found his way around the big city and would tell me he had been to every RobinÕs Donuts and Tim HortonÕs in Winnipeg. He loved his coffee and ÒoccasionalÓ donut! After living a few years in Winnipeg, he laid down roots in Warren, MB where he commuted the 20 miles to work and enjoyed 25 years at the Winnipeg International Airport. You could find Dad at his table at the Whistle Stop Caf drinking coffee and sharing his latest stock tips with the regulars or teasing the waitresses and cooks. DadÕs favourite time of year was summer and he loved nothing better than soaking up the rays. Perhaps it was on the rooftop at work, at the beach in Stonewall, canoeing down the La Salle River or on his houseboat in Pinawa. Aptly named ÒThe DrifterÓ, he spent many hours decorating and repairing his boat, and loved to take guests for a cruise. Many of my friends enjoyed a day on LarsÕ boat, with the gold steering wheel. Larry will be forever remembered and missed by his children Colleen (Gerald), Scott (Laura), Mark (Carol), Lesley (Dan) and his twin brother Terry (Gail). Besides his children he is survived by his grandchildren, Ben, Sam, Natelle, Jordy, Daniel, Conar, Emma, Georgia, Derek, Liam, and Sean, his mother Jeanette and sister Ellen of Ottawa, ON. We would like to thank everyone for their cards, prayers and support during our difficult time. Friends are welcome to join LarryÕs family for a cup of coffee and donuts on Saturday, August 23 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Please bring your lawn chair to the Kennedy cabin at Phantom Lake and share a story with us. As a memorial tribute to Dad - he would tell you to Pay it Forward - do something kind for someone else Òbecause itÕs the right thing to do.Ó That was Dad, honest, kind, generous, and taken from us much too soon. Mo Chuisle
