ANDERSON - The death of Mr. Alan Anderson of Bruno, SK (and formerly of Flin Flon, MB) occurred at his residence on Tuesday, May 6, 2008. He was 71 years of age. Alan was born on October 20, 1936, to Edward and Alice (nee Birde) Anderson at home on their farm in the Pleasantdale district of Saskatchewan. He was very young when the family left the area and moved to Flin Flon. Alan attained his formal education there, then entered the work force. He was the quintessential Òjack-of-all-tradesÓ with strong work ethics, so had no problem finding employment. Eventually, Alan began his career in the mining industry as a diamond driller and then worked at various mines throughout North America, including Alaska, Idaho, and the Northwest Territories. With the birth of his first grandchild, Alan embraced his role as a grandfather and his career became secondary. He continued to work and live in Flin Flon until 2000 when, due to medical reasons, he retired. Alan remained in Flin Flon until October 2006, when he decided to move to Bruno to be closer to his daughter, son, and grandchildren. Throughout his life, he was an avid sports fan. In his youth, he played ball and hockey and, in more recent years, enjoyed many sports as a spectator, and especially liked watching the Toronto Blue Jays. Alan loved the outdoors, particularly up north, where he fished and camped. He was proud of his ability to build, especially the cabin that was remodelled across the lake from Bakers Narrows in northern Manitoba where he loved to spend time. Other favourite pastimes included playing cards, especially 500 Rummy. Through his love of reading, in many areas, Alan was a self-taught man. Family was of great importance to him, specifically the arrival of his grandchildren, who were main reasons why he moved to Bruno. Alan will be lovingly remembered by his two children and seven grandchildren: SHERRY (Laverne) Thoms of Bruno, SK, and family, Kalem, Briana, Tori, Reagen and Danen; and ALAN Anderson of Saskatoon, SK, and family, Celeste and Britney; one sister, Lyla (Al) Hanowski of Brandon, MB; one sister-in-law, Joy Anderson; and by his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Alice (nee Birde) Anderson; one daughter, Lori Anderson; and by four brothers: Ron Anderson, Lorne Anderson, Bob (Wanda) Anderson, and Gerry Anderson. The Commital Service will take place at the cabin across the lake from Bakers Narrows, Manitoba, on Sunday, June 29, 2008. SCHULER-LEFEBVRE, Humboldt, SK. (306-682-4114)
