Frederick (Fred) Leslie Ford Resident of The Pas, and former resident of Flin Flon, Fred Ford Sr. passed away Thursday, December 18, 2003, at St. Paul's Personal Care Home at the age of 94 years. Fred was born Tuesday, November 18, 1909, at Burmingham, Saskatchewan, and raised and educated in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He worked in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, as a bookkeeper with a construction company and then moved to The Pas where he worked with National Fruit. Fred met and married Verna Hemmings (who just happened to work in the telephone office right next door) November 2, 1933, at The Pas. His job took him to Flin Flon where he managed the National Fruit there. Fred was very community conscious. He was a Scout Master; a Rotarian; and a Weigh Master for the Trout Festival. Fred enlisted with the Fort Garry Horse (Militia) April 3, 1942, in Flin Flon, Manitoba, during war time and was honourably discharged November 16, 1945, at Flin Flon. After retirement Fred and Verna returned to The Pas where they then resided. Fred is survived by his daughter, Barbara Smith; brothers, John Ford, Donald Ford; sister, Doris Moore; grandchildren, Kevin Smith, Heidi Fouillard, Raimey Ford, Kristine Ford, James Ford, Rick Ford; great-grandchildren, Samantha Berg, Joey Fouillard, Haillie Fouillard, Allie Fouillard, Madison Ford, Brandon Ford, Jayden Ford, Darien Ford, Ashton Ford; and other relatives. Fred was predeceased by his wife, Verna Ione Ford; sons, Carl Lawrence Ford, Robert Donald Ford, Frederick Wayne Ford; grandsons, Steven, Bradley; granddaughter, Jackie; father, Frederick Ford; mother, Sarah Ford; brother, Harry; sister, Millie; nephew, Donald. The funeral service was held Tuesday, December 23, 2003, 3:00 p.m., at Christ Church Anglican, The Pas, with Rev. Grahme Spear presiding. The organist was Isobel Halcrow. A tribute from the family was given by his grandson, Kevin Smith. A presentation of flowers was made by his grandchildren. The Royal Canadian Legion Tribute was given by Comrade Ove Larsen. Following the interment prayers at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas, a reception was held at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, The Pas. The pallbearers were Gary Morrish, Rick Ford, Claire Erven, Kevin Erven, Gordie Parsons, and Cory Anderson.
