John Lengyel John was born in Flin Flon August 4, 1938 and he was a Flin Flon resident all his life. He loved the people, the fishing, the north. John was married February 16, 1963 to Jo-Ann Sonnichsen. John was hired at HBM&S Co. Ltd. as an apprentice when he was 17 years old. He worked as a Stationery Engineer in the Powerhouse for 41 1/2 years, with a variety of responsibility. John retired in 1997. John was a Cub leader for five years, a volunteer on the Youth Justice, a member of the Flin Flon Community Choir, a member of IOOB's, a member of the Knights of Columbus and an active member of St. Ann's Parish. John Joseph Lengyel, beloved husband of Jo-Ann Lengyel, passed away peacefully at home, on Friday, November 21, 2003. Father of son Pat (Tanis Mohr) and "Papa" of Madeline and Benjamin of Winnipeg and daughter Betty (Don Jennings), and very special "Gramps" of Kyle Blatz of Flin Flon. John is survived by sisters Irene (Ron) Chartrand; Sylvia (Ron) Young, Margaret (Gordon) Willetts; brothers Ed (Betty), Andy, Jim (Sharon), Les (Kathy); brother-in-law Jack Scott. Mother- and father-in-law Jeane and Bill Sonnichsen; brother-in-law Paul (Mary) Sonnichsen; sister-in-law Leslie (Gerry) Levesque. Nieces and nephews Linda, Maureen (Philip) and John Scott; Ron, Tammy and Leslie Young; Sandra (Cam) Willetts; Robbie and Daryl Lengyel; Tracey (Dave) and Chris (Steph) Lengyel; Katie and Leah Sonnichsen; Neal and Lisa Levesque; several great nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents Mary and John and sister Helen (Scott). Prayers for John were held Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at 7:00 from the Chapel of Dadson Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, November 26, 2003 from St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, with Archbishop Peter Sutton OMI and Father Denis Bourbonnais OMI, as celebrants. Interment followed at Hillside Cemetery. Crystal and Mark Kolt were soloist and organist; active bearers were Larrie Coles, Todd Boyd, Gerry Robertson, Mark Boisjoli, Richard Kozar, and Tony Haffick. Fourth Degree Knights formed an Honour Guard and all John's friends were honourary bearers. Ushers were Jean Danis and Amby Brecht. Memorial register attendants were Donna Coles, Bonnie Boisjoli, and Bonnie Bowes. Eulogy was read by John Taylor. Reader was Gertie Sewap. Gabriele Taylor and Lucille Rossington were Ministers of the Eucharist. Following interment, lunch was served at St. Ann's Hall by the Catholic Women's League. Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke, Cancer Society, or Children's Wish Foundation. "Be happy in the moment, that's enough. Each moment is all we need, no more. Be happy now and if you show through your actions that you love others, including those who are poorer than you, you'll give them happiness too. It doesn't take much - it can be just giving a smile. The world would be a much better place if everyone smiled more. So smile, be cheerful, be joyous that God loves you" . . .
