BURLING, Mrs. Marion Hume Burling of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at the age of 93 years. Marion was born on August 30, 1910 to George and Margaret Brown in the District of Silver Creek, Manitoba, being the youngest of five children. Following the death of her father in 1921, she moved to Russell, Manitoba with her mother and sister, where she continued with her schooling. After completing high school, she went to live with her eldest sister in Regina, Saskatchewan while she attended the Reliance School of Commerce and received her secretarial diploma. There were very few jobs available at that time but she did find employment with the Massey Harris Implement Company for one year and then with the Saskatchewan Provincial Government for twelve years. When she married Brian E. Burling of Flin Flon, Manitoba, one son was born to this communion, Brian Wayne Burling. While living in Flin Flon, Marion worked for the Manitoba Government for five years and then worked for a law firm as a legal secretary in the same office for another twenty years. After her husband Brian retired, they moved to Red Deer, where they made their home until her passing. Marion leaves to mourn her loss, her loving son, Wayne and his wife, Lorrie, as well as numerous relatives and dear friends. Marion was predeceased by her beloved husband, Brian in 2002. Relatives and friends were invited to come and pay their respects at Eventide Funeral Chapels, 4820 Ð 45th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services were held at St. Leonard's On-The-Hill Anglican Church, 4241 Ð 44th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, March 27, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. with The Venerable Archdeacon Derek Hoskin officiating. Interment followed at the Alto-Reste Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta. If desired, memorial donations may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 4730A Ross Street, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 1X2 or to St. Leonard's On-The-Hill Anglican Church, 4241 Ð 44th Street, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 1H3.
