Fay Anne Cassan (nee Yelland) Fay Cassan, of Flin Flon, Manitoba, passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at the age of 79 years. As per Fay's request, family and friends may pay their respects at a Celebration-of-Life gathering at the home of her son and daughter-in-law at 679 Bereskin Avenue in Creighton, between the hours of 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2003. In lieu of flowers, please perform an act of kindness in memory of Fay or donations may be made to a charity of your choice. A private family ceremony will be held in the Silver Stream District of Saskatchewan. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Russell; daughters Lena (Lloyd) and Lana (Bill); son Robert (Laurelle); grandchildren Dan, Jody (Tracy), Robyn, Robert, Brian, Ryan; great-grandchildren Jordan-Lee and Erin. Fay was born in the Forester District of Saskatchewan on June 14, 1924 to Robert and Lena (nee Eade) Yelland. At the age of 17, she moved to Flin Flon where she met and married Russell Cassan on June 11, 1942. During the war they spent two years in Dawson Creek, near the Alaska Highway where Fay ran the day canteen for the army. In 1945, they returned permanently to Flin Flon where they raised their family. Fay was an avid knitter and lovingly supplied all her children and grandchildren with mitts, toques, slippers and sweaters throughout the years. In recent years, she took pleasure in donating mittens to those in need. Fay greatly enjoyed tending her beautiful flowerbeds during the summer and reading her mystery/historical novels throughout the winter. Her most meaningful moments were spent at family gatherings; the most recent of which was at Riding Mountain Park this summer to celebrate Russ's 90th birthday. Special thanks to the entire staff at the Flin Flon General Hospital, Dr. Brown, and the Intensive Care Unit of the Health Sciences Center. Fay greatly appreciated all those who visited and sent cards and greetings of support during her extended stay in the hospital. She took great delight in her "hospital haircut" from Jill Spiller and the frequent visits by Linda Mandes. Fay was blessed with some very special people in her life: Bonnie Pickett, Linda Mandes, and neighbours Audrey Reeves and Diana Robertson. Fay also enjoyed the friendship of the ladies that met for coffee and attended the teas. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks for all the kindness and support during this time as well as for the cards, calls, food, flowers and donations made in memory of Fay.
