Lawrence Merle Grindle 1925 - 2003 It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Lawrence Merle Grindle, on October 28, 2003, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 53 years, Geraldine, his son Ken (Barb) Grindle, daughters Lorraine (Wayne) Mounce, Maureen (Bill) Forrest, and Brenda McDuffee. Surviving are his grandchildren, Sandra Walker, Teresa, Sherry, Laurie and Scott Grindle, Robert and Bradley McDuffee, and Emily and Matthew Forrest, as well as eight great-grandchildren, his sister Inez and numerous nieces and nephews. His brothers Gordon, Melvin, James, and Rutherford and one sister, Francis, predeceased him. Lawrence was born on March 22, 1925, in Pelly, Saskatchewan. As most young farm children of the time, he left school at an early age to help support his family. He lived in Renwer, Manitoba, and eventually found his way north to Flin Flon where other members of his family had settled. Lawrence joined the army in 1944 and, with the Lord Strathcona Horse, was stationed in Belgium and Holland. After the war he returned to Flin Flon where he worked for over 20 years for McIsaac Drilling and over 22 years for Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting where he was promoted to the position of shift boss. Lawrence was dedicated to his work and loved to share his fond memories of his co-workers and the events they experienced together. Lawrence was a gentle and caring soul. The real measure of a person's life is not in the accomplishments of an extraordinary career, but in the loyalty, love and devotion of family and friends, and the legacy of integrity and gentleness he leaves behind. Following cremation a memorial service was held on Tuesday, November 4 at Dadson Funeral Home, Flin Flon. Special thanks to Dr. Amin and all staff of the Flin Flon General Hospital for the care provided and to Dana Dadson, Ina Golaiy, Brent and Susan Lethbridge, Arlene Milton, and to the Flin Flon Legion for their compassion and contribution to the service. Thanks also to those who visited, sent flowers and food, and provided moral support. Your kindness and understanding is greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice. Your life was love and labour Your love for your family true No length of time can dim the past We shall always love and remember you.11/14/2003
