Douglas Kenneth Dawson December 18, 1926 - October 25, 2003 Dawson - Cheryl and Diane, daughters of Douglas Dawson, sadly announce his sudden passing on October 26, 2003. Doug was predeceased by his parents, William and Jane; brother, Bill; and sister, Beatrice. In 1994 he lost his wife, Jean. He is survived by daughter, Cheryl McBean (Saskatoon) and her children, Shauna and Scott, and daughter. Diane Lefevre (Calgary) and her children, Adam and Danielle. Also sister, Edith Millar (Winnipeg) and brother, Art Dawson. Doug was born in St. Boniface, MB and moved to Flin Flon at the age of 16. He was employed at the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company where he also met his future wife, Jean Leask, they were married in 1947. During the winter months, Doug devoted his time working with the Flin Flon Junior Bombers Hockey Team. In his first year as manager (1956 - '57) they won the Memorial Cup - Canadian Junior Hockey Championship. In 1960 Doug and his family moved to Saskatoon where he coached the Saskatoon Junior Quakers for two years. Following this he was employed by the Patience Lake Potash Company of America as a licensed pipefitter until his retirement in 1987. Doug's passion for hockey continued throughout his retirement and everyone knew not to call during Hockey Night in Canada. In November of 1999, a very proud honour was bestowed to Doug and his Memorial Cup hockey team, as they were inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame. The remainder of his retirement was spent enjoying his past times of watching hockey, reading and spending time with family. A Memorial Tea will be held at the W.A. Edwards Family Centre (333 - 4th Avenue North, Saskatoon) on Friday afternoon, October 31, 2003 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation. Interment will follow at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Saskatoon Funeral Home. 244-5577
