My favourite thing about Christmas

The Christmas season always brings thoughts of unity and peace, of warm rooms filled with merry people and endless food, and quiet evenings, watching silent lights wink along their glimmering strands about the Christmas tree.

The Christmas season always brings thoughts of unity and peace, of warm rooms filled with merry people and endless food, and quiet evenings, watching silent lights wink along their glimmering strands about the Christmas tree.  As a welcome to this holiday time, The Reminder asked a few community members what their favourite thing about Christmas is…

Mayor Bruce Fidler

Mayor of Creighton, Saskatchewan

My favourite thing about Christmas is just spending time with friends and family and enjoying the season.

Rob Winton

Vice-president, Manitoba Business Unit, Hudbay

My favourite thing about Christmas is kids, from the excited little ones who have been spinning for weeks to the inner kid in us all. Lights, trees and Christmas carols all spark the wonderful memories of time spent with family and friends. It is a wonderful time of year and offers a moment or two to step away from the daily grind to share stories and laughs with those you love.

MP Niki Aston

Member of Parliament, Churchill

#1 Time with family.

#2 Christmas pudding!

Karen MacKinnon

Councillor, Flin Flon city council

My favourite thing about Christmas is gathering everyone together to decorate Christmas cookies with the children and grandchildren.

Carmen Ward

Shelter manager, SPCA

My favourite thing about Christmas is watching my daughter open her night-before-Christmas gift. Santa always brings new PJs. Also, enjoying special holiday get-togethers with loved ones is the best. With the work I do at the SPCA, I see how generous our community is, not only during the holidays, but all year long. We are pretty lucky to be so supported and it makes me thankful. Merry Christmas and all the best in 2015.

Deb Odegaard

Administrator, Flin Flon Recycling Centre

I love the colour that Christmas lights add to the community, especially when darkness comes so early.

Sergeant Mark Svaren

Creighton RCMP

My favourite thing about Christmas is the time spent with friends and family.

Danita Stallard

Graphic artist, The Reminder

My favourite thing about Christmas is wassailing often, and with gusto.

Mayor Carl Lentowicz

Mayor of Denare Beach, Saskatchewan

My favourite thing about Christmas is when the family gathers, and also how people interact quite well in the community.

Cindy McLean

Administrator, Flin Flon Public Library

My favourite thing about Christmas is Family, and remembering the true meaning of Christmas.

Lois Moberly

Executive director of clinical services,
Flin Flon General Hospital

My favourite thing about Christmas is visiting with family and friends, having lots of food, and inviting those who might be alone for the season to join in.

Mayor Cal Huntley

Mayor of Flin Flon, Manitoba

Christmas is about family and in particular the children. The joy and excitement that they exude is infectious. It’s a time for reflection, remembering the good times as well as the troubled times and a time to be grateful for what we are so privileged to enjoy and our ability to share that with others not so lucky.
