After a busy week, Operation Christmas Child has broken its local record for donations to help less fortunate youth overseas.
“321 [boxes] is our grand total. It’s our record so far,” said local organizer Pastor Jim Galbraith.
The number of boxes increased dramatically during the weekend, going from just 30 early last week to the final figure.
“It tends to come in later in the week,” said Galbraith. “The first few days, they trickle in, but later in the week, people remember and drop them all off.”
Several donors brought multiple boxes for the program this year. Local businesses and groups also donated several boxes. A school-wide donation drive at Creighton Community School added 45 boxes to the total on Sunday.
“It goes to show that people really do want to help out, even if it’s for kids they’ll never meet,” said Galbraith.
