Inspiration comes from everything. It comes from the people who surround you, the things that fill the shelves in your homes, and the objects that are dusted off after many years of being looked at.
Kathy McCormick has spent the last year working on a fundraiser that incorporates all of those things. Getting inspiration herself from a television program last year, she decided to host a Celebrity Auction in support of Habitat for Humanity.
She has been collecting items ranging from decorative plates and china, to etchings and sports jerseys, and even sports buttons.
The auction will be held at the RH Channing Auditorium on Nov. 22 with some items relevant to local heritage.
Some items include a signed jersey from Flin Flon native and former NHLer Reid Simpson and a CD from local musician CC Trubiak.
A 2013 Flin Flon Bombers jersey, signed by country musicians at Craven Country Jamboree, will also be up for auction.
The doors of the auction will open at 12 noon with the final call for bids being made at 3:45.
Bidders are encouraged to stay for the duration of the auction to “keep an eye on the items they are” interested in, said McCormick.
Coffee, tea and dainties will be offered, with round tables for seating. There will also be a silver collection at the door and a 50/50 draw to help raise funds to build Habitat’s first house.
McCormick estimates roughly $3,000 worth of items will be auctioned off.
“Whatever we raise is going to be awesome,” said McCormick. “There is no way I can predict what is going to happen. Whatever is raised is raised. It’s our first [auction].”
Habitat 53°, the local branch of Habitat for Humanity, continues to work on Flin Flon’s first Habitat house.
Funds from the Celebrity Auction will go toward the purchase of drywall.
Progress continues to be made, as the siding has been installed on the Steventon Boulevard home. The house also has its doors, windows, roof and shingles completed.
