Dozens of Flin Flon area residents came to an event last weekend to learn one thing – how to take charge.

The Global Leadership Summit took place at the Flin Flon Alliance Church. The two-day summit, organized with the Willow Creek Community Church in Illinois, was one of several held across Canada and the US.

Event organizers were impressed with the turnout.

“We pretty much were at 90 per cent our building’s capacity for the event,” said Tracy Pietsch, producer for the event.

Three aldermen from Creighton town council were slated to attend the summit, along with representatives from several local businesses and groups.

“We had a well-balanced variety of people, from the business sector, from the hospital, the city,” said Pietsch. “We had a lot people from all different types of work and life.”

A key part of the annual event is a meeting featuring several business leaders and political figures. The meeting, which takes place in Chicago, is simulcast online, and participating groups stream the event over the internet. This year’s meeting included speeches from billionaire philanthropist Melinda Gates and former Ford CEO Alan Mulally.

“It’s usually live in Chicago, and we get a simulcast in October,” said Pietsch. “Every speaker and speech we had at the summit, it was on different ways to implement leadership and how to grow and support leadership.”

The Alliance Church held a similar event last year, and was impressed with the community’s response.

“Last year was a complete success, and this year was as well,” Pietsch said. “Our numbers were higher this year as far as our guests were concerned. As far as the reviews I’ve heard so far, it was just incredible.”

Plans are already in the works to hold another leadership summit next October.

“People should be looking forward to it coming again next year and try to attend,” said Pietsch.
