The Festival of Trees has become a holiday favourite in the Flin Flon area.
Now marking its eighth year, the CADAC-sponsored event will be held Friday, Nov. 28 and Saturday, Nov. 29 at the Creighton Community School gymnasium.
The festival originally ran out of the Creighton Sportex, but since the school’s graduating class took on parts of the festival as a fundraiser, it has been held in the spacious gymnasium.
The grad class hosts a breakfast with Santa event as well as the Silver Bells tea. Children will also have the opportunity to have their picture taken with Santa.
Festival organizer Laurel Mackie, of CADAC, says she enjoys the partnership between CADAC and the school.
“We wanted to help and share the wealth,” she said. “It’s a good fundraiser for their chemical-free graduation.”
Crowd pleasers
As in years past, the Festival of Trees will showcase decorated Christmas trees, wreathes and centrepieces entered by individuals, businesses and organizations in the community.
Judges will have their say on specific categories, but the public will voice their opinion for Best in Show.
“We’re always excited to see who will be Best in Show,” said Mackie.
Alongside the trees, wreathes and centrepieces, the festival also hosts a successful craft, bake and home business sale.
“All of our craft spaces are full,” Mackie said.
Mackie says the generosity of the community really shines through at this time of year.
“This is a loved event,” she said.
The Festival of Trees is one of CADAC’s only fundraisers to keep its addiction awareness and prevention services going.
On a smaller scale, Mackie says the organization is also hosting a cheesecake sale.
The final day for purchase will be at the festival.
