The 2016 Flin Flon luncheons continued on Oct. 7 with the first fall gathering at Winnipeg’s Viscount Gort Hotel. The second fall get-together was held on Nov. 4.

Both events were well attended due to wonderfully warm weather and folks returning to the city from their northern cottages.

On Oct. 7 we welcomed five first-time guests in Al Smith (Toronto), Alvin and Sylvia Smuland (Bedford, Minnesota), and Terry and Julie (Woloshyn) Leefe (Winnipeg).

On Nov. 4, three people were first-timers: Ted Nelson (Morden) and Kathleen Delgatty and Bev Harris (Winnipeg).

The Flin Flon Heritage Project has initiated a couple of fundraisers. They are selling calendars featuring the wonderful photography of Randy Whitbread and cookbooks that were compiled by students in Parkdale School in 1967. Many of the recipes were contributed by “famous” Canadians during Canada’s Centennial year.

At the November luncheon, Wayne Warren brought us up to date on the forthcoming reunion taking place in Flin Flon from June 29 to July 2, 2017. Registration forms will be available online, shortly.

Attending the Oct. 7 luncheon were: Eunice Petrychko, Dennis Goodwin, Clint Young, Helen Smallwood, Ruth Brown, Kathleen Choptain, Dave and Joann Negrych, Art Gauthier, Jim Pico, Davilyn Eyolfson, Frank Dembinsky, Elaine Taylor, Pat and Nadir Ahmad, Gordon Thompson, Brian Mondor, Doreen Edmunds, June Bohemier, Bob Bulow, Jack and Jo-Ann Turner, Del Cheale, Larry Brown, Joe Greenberg, Kay De Jong, Paul Birston, Ellinor and Barry Prentice, Ron Struch, Gordon Spring, Wayne Warren, Ian Robertson, Roy Walker, Bernie Van Bentham, Miles St. Godard, Shirley Watts and Elaine McCrimmon.

The Christmas lunch-eon will be held on Friday, Dec. 2. The committee is planning a 30th anniversary celebration to coincide with the final luncheon of 2016.

It was 30 years ago that Winnipeg’s Flin Flon luncheons began in the Grill Room in the downtown Eaton’s store. We will be displaying memorabilia from 30 years ago, including the book in which the names of the folks who attended those luncheons were recorded. The luncheons moved to the Viscount Gort a few years later and the group has gathered there for most of the 30 years.

The Christmas luncheon is always well attended. It is expected that about 100 guests will be in attendance. The room will be festively decorated and door prizes will be given out to several attendees.

If you plan to be in Winnipeg on Dec. 2, please consider joining us. The luncheon starts at noon. Come early and enjoy coffee and a chat with old friends.
