A lot going on

Hapnot Hype:

There is a lot going on at Hapnot Collegiate, which is typical of all schools during start-up.

The sports schedule was ridiculously busy this past month with golf, cross-country, soccer and volleyball all running at the same time.

The golf team travelled to The Pas on Sept. 12 to compete in the zone against a solid MBCI team.

Hapnot’s scores ranged from 97 to 120 – not our best day, but there is some potential coming down the pipe for
next year.

The soccer teams were chosen with a number of JV players making the squad, almost enough for their own team.

Both teams travelled to Neepawa and Swan River, winning both the girls’ and boys’
divisions.

They compete Oct. 4 in Thompson against our rival Trojans for the zone banner. We are expecting good things from them.

There are five volleyball teams at Hapnot, with a JV girls teams as well as a junior B team.

The JV girls won consolation in Dauphin while missing the playoffs in Swan River by a single point. The senior teams won their opening tournaments in Thompson.

Career Day

Hapnot also hosted its annual Career Day on Sept. 23 with students exposed to numerous job opportunities and training programs.

There are a couple of post-secondary planning events coming up in the near future for students as well. Grade 11 and 12 students who are interested in finding out more about scholarships and the postsecondary application process should keep an eye on the announcements for upcoming workshops planned for the end of October.

Culture Days

There were a number of events hosted in Hapnot during Culture Days.

Hapnot and Cranberry Portage students had the opportunity to joint one of six events going on in the school.

Students had a choice of Musical Theatre, a Quinton Blair concert, So you Like to Sing, Portraits and Cartoons, Poetry Slam or Rock of Future.

The end of the afternoon saw all students gather in the gym for a performance by Rock of Future.

Two days later, about 14 Hapnot students attended the Dancing Down Main Street event and Hapnot received a $300 cheque in the prize draw!

Artist visits

Hapnot art students also had an artist, Karen Cornelius, come to the school the following week, Sept. 29 to
Oct. 3.

Karen has been working as a visual artist and more recently in new media arts.

She has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Canada, the US, Africa, Europe, Australia and China.

Karen introduced printmaking techniques to students exploring the theme.
